June 15, 2023: Psalm 145:9 - The LORD is Good to All
“The LORD is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works.” - Psalm 145:9
Oh, what a true verse in the song of God’s majesty and love that David the psalmist wrote of our God! God is good to all. His goodness reaches to the most kind and humble people you could ever know to the wretched and murderous ones filled with hate in their heart. His goodness extends to all people, who are all sinners in need of a Savior.
God’s goodness was demonstrated in such a way that He sent His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to suffer in a way that no one has ever suffered. Jesus, who never sinned, had all of our sins placed on Him - the sin of every person who had ever lived at that time, extending to the sins of all people still to come - feeling the loneliness of sin, even asking God, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Mark 15:34), a statement prophetically uttered by David long before Jesus came to earth (Psalm 22:1). But God, He did not forsake Jesus. Oh no, three days after Jesus gave up His life and His body was placed in the tomb, God raised Jesus from the dead, and for 40 days, Jesus remained on the earth, spending time with His apostles and disciples before He ascended to heaven to sit at the right hand of God. Oh, yes, our God is good, and He promises to resurrect to new life all who put their faith and trust in His Son Jesus Christ.
God’s mercy extends to all through His works. Psalm 111:7 tells us, “The works of His hands are verity and justice…” “Verity” means that which is true, or truth. God’s goodness never changes. Our rejection of His goodness is not a reflection of Him but of us, of a prideful and unrepentant heart and a rejection of the truth. For one to be good, one must be just, and God is a just God. For those who reject His mercy and forgiveness, He will judge them, He will deliver justice to them. That time is coming, but until then, we are in a time of mercy and grace. It’s not too late to turn to Jesus Christ and receive His free gift of salvation from all your sins. As David urged all as he wrote in Psalm 34:8, “Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him!” Will you do that today? ✝️
